Puttur, Oct 2: A neighbour, who went to the house of an elderly person, to help him to resolve the family issue he had with his son and daughter-in-law, was locked deliberately inside the room along with the old man by the daughter-in-law of the elderly man and other members of the house.
Suleiman (76), a resident of Nattibailu Mane in Uppinangadi near here had differences with his son and daughter-in-law with regards to the property. So Suleiman asked the help of Hameed, his neighbour, to accompany him to the police station to register a complaint in this regard. Police, who investigated the matter, had asked Suleiman to live cordially with his daughter-in-law until his son returns from the gulf, where he is employed.
On the request of Suleiman, Hameed had accompanied him to his home after the visit to the police station. Suleiman requested Hameed to come inside his room in the house. As soon as Hameed entered the room of Suleiman, both of them were locked inside the room by the members of the house by putting the latch of the door from outside. Both of them sought the help of Uppinangadi police in this matter by phoning them.
Though the police rushed to the house immediately, the inmates of the house did not agree to open lock on the door of the room in which they locked both Hameed and Suleiman. When the situation was about to go out of control, Uppinangadi police SI Nandakumar rushed to the spot and warned the inmates of the house to open the lock or else face consequences as per the Senior Citizens' Protection Act. Then the inmates of the house released both Hameed and Suleiman by opening the lock and latch of the room.
Suleiman, who was tired due to is age, as well as mental torture due to this episode, was consoled by the police officer by offering him food and shelter in his house. The inmates of the house are sternly warned by the police to live cordially with elderly Suleiman till his son returns from the gulf.
