Mangaluru, Oct 1: City’s prestigious institution, St Aloysius College has secured the third place in Swatch Campus Ranking-2018, announced by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in the category of higher educational institution. The college stands first in the state.
MCMDAV College for Women, Chandigarh secured first place while PSG College of Arts & Science, Tamil Nadu bagged the second place. Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Tamil Nadu and G D C Memorial College, Haryana, secured the fourth and fifth places respectively.
St Aloysius College
The ranking is based on many parameters which fixed by the ministry. The government has measured the colleges/institutes on many parameters that include student-toilet ratio, cleanliness in kitchen, the modernity of kitchen as well as toilet equipment, campus green cover, availability of running water, garbage disposal in the hostel and academic buildings. Besides this, garbage disposal techniques, water supply systems and also to some extent if the institution has adopted any neighbouring locality or village for that matter to make them familiar with cleanliness activities that they need to undertake on regular basis, are also taken into consideration.
Approximately, 4,000 higher education institutes had sent nominations through online invitation by filling and submitting all their details as per the format provided. As per the criteria, top 200 institutes were shortlisted. The officials from the AICTE and UGC inspected the premises of all the shortlisted institutes and these institutes were awarded. The exercise is aimed at generating the peer pressure among students in the areas of cleanliness.
This programme was further to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which is one of the most significant and vigorously pursued campaigns of the Indian Government in the past few years.
