Mangaluru, Sep 30: Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi received a good amount of rain on Saturday, September 29.
In Guthigar area several electric poles were uprooted due to high-velocity winds. In the road near Kamila cross traffic got affected as a huge tree fell on the road.
Mangaluru received rain on the evening of Saturday. Many areas including Kadaba, Bantwal, Puttur, Uppinangady, Sullia, Guruvayanakere, Vittal, B R Road, Macchina and Madyanthar received rain.
Electrical appliances of the house belonging to Sridhar Patlodlu of Mantradi village in Moodabidri got burnt as the lightning struck during the heavy rains. The walls of the house suffered cracked. The estimate of the loss in yet to be done.
In Udupi and adjoining areas, moderate rains showered on the evening of Saturday. While Shirva, Padubidri, and Brahmavar received moderate rains, Karkal received heavy showers. Kundapur received light drizzle.
All the electrical instruments of the Government higher primary school at Shivapur near Hebri got damaged. The loss is estimated to be around Rs three lac. Students though were inside the classrooms during the mishap, escaped unhurt miraculously. Former MLA Sunil Kumar, zilla panchayat member Jyoti Harish, Shivpur gram panchayat president Sugandhi Naika, PDO Shobha Shetty and village accountant Hitesh visited the school and took stock of the situation.
Malpe World Tourism Day programme disrupted
Rain disrupted the programme at Malpe beach, where various events related to the World Tourism Day are being celebrated since Thursday. The cultural programme was affected for some time on Friday and Saturday due to rain. However, the audience enjoyed the programme under the cover of the umbrella. The artists got wet while performing as the dais was an open one. Artists have informed that valuable stage accessories and costumes have got damaged due to rains.
