Bantwal: Demolition of grotto - two arrested persons sent to judicial custody

Bantwal, Sep 30: Relating to the demolition of Mother Mary grotto at Kulal near Kolnadu, police have arrested two persons.

Jayarama Naika and Monappa Naika are the persons arrested.

They have been charged under 143, 147, 153(J), 295(J), 427and 149 sections of IPC. Vittal police are investigating the case.

The arrested persons were produced in court later. The court has sent them to judicial custody till October 12.

The incident had taken place at Kulal near Kolnadu in Bantwal taluk on the night of Thursday, September 27. Some idols and buntings were installed after demolishing the Mother Mary grotto which stood there since 1970.

A policeman was suspended for dereliction of duty relating to the case.

    Some rigid and fanatic people are supporting the vandalization and demolition of grotto. The Structure was existed from 1970. It is few jealous people have instigated these people to demolish the grotto.
    2019 elections are approaching and the require support from the communities. Now only way left to the politicians is to instigate people. Inflation, corruption are at the peak and the politicians have to divert the people's mind.

    We have some kumki land, and now several houses have come up illegally. Government officially illegally changed FMB maps without our consent. We have all the old documents. I am planning to put cases in high court. People who have built houses acting like innocents. Demolition is the only option left for us...
