Udupi, Sep 20: All bank officers and staff of All India Bank Employees Association here staged a protest against the Central government decision of amalgamation of nationalized banks like Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank which was held at the premises of Vijaya Bank regional office, near Shyamili auditorium Ambalpady on Friday September 28.

Shivaprasad of Vijay Bank, secretary, All India Bank Officers Association Udupi said, "We are opposing the central government stand of amalgamation of nationalised banks. Vijaya Bank is giving better profit. We have been through several difficulties yet declared dividends. We have provided better service with better staff. It was very painful, unfortunate and we are demoralised by this policy. It may acquire large scale banks not smaller banks. Vijaya Bank started in the coastal region and struggled a lot to stand at regional level. It may affects the banking sector. The Government has put us in trouble.

"Merging of State Bank and associated banks does not work. Though the government has taken up this extreme step, it is better for them to take over corporate level banks instead of small banks. This should not happen. Let us perform as early as possible."

Shripathi Bhat of Dena Bank, Nithyananda of Karnataka Bank, Nagesh Nayak, Corporation Bank spoke at the protest.

Varadaraj, Canara Bank, Prakash Jogi, Bharathiya State Bank, Raghuramkrishna Ballal, Corporation Bank and association members Ravishankar, Hemanth U kanth, Ananthpadmanabh, staff union members Ravindra, Ramesh, Mayan Malpe, Udupi district bank employees association secretary Herald D'Souza were present.
