Puttur, Nov 1: The special session of the gram sabha convened by Uppinangady gram panchayat for holding discussions on the contentious issues of the construction of the proposed commercial complex in Uppinangady bus stand and also the demolition of illegal petty shops on Friday October 31, had to be cancelled for want of quorum.
The ruling Congress chose to stay away from the gram sabha. Out of 18 members of the gram panchayat, 11 are supported by the congress, with the others belonging to the BJP. All the seven opposition members came to the meeting on time. However, only the president, vice president and one member attended the session on behalf of the Congress party.
It may be recalled, that the taluk panchayat had asked the gram panchayat to get approval fot its plans to build the said commercial complex, at the gram sabha.
