Udupi, Sep 22: About two months now since Shiroor Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji breathed his last, the Swamiji's pet elephant, 'Laxmeesha' passed away.
Shiroor Swamiji had left for the heavenly abode on July 19 this year. Laxmeesha's carcass was found lying at Kallalla zone within Nagarahole national park limits two days back.
Laxmeesha had gone missing from the Mattigodu domesticated elephants camp 20 days back when the herd was left to graze, in a state of musth. The officials believe that the tusker would have fought with a herd of elephants in a state of musth and got killed in the bargain.
This elephant had been given to Shiroor Math here during the second Paryaya period of Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji when Veerappa Moily was Karnataka chief minister in 1993. Laxmeesha had of late been showing signs of disobedience and going out of control and therefore shifted to Mattigodu camp about five years back.
