Kundapur, Sep 21: In connection with the recovery of illegally stored rice issued under the government's 'Anna Bhagya' scheme inside Vijaya Rice Mill premises at Manuru, Kota, the additional district and sessions court here, on Thursday September 20, rejected the bail application filed by the accused, identified as Umanath Pai.
On the basis of complaint received from some people, and under the instructions of the deputy commissioner of the district, subdivisional officer here, T Bhoobalan, along with deputy director of food and civil services, M R Bhat, and Udupi taluk food inspector, Parvathi, had raided the said mill on September 10. 54.49 quintals of 'Anna Bhagya' rice and 44 packets of milk powder issued under 'Ksheera Bhagya' scheme of the government had been seized during the raid. A case in this connection was registered in Kota police station.
Judge of the court, Prakash Khanderi, who heard the anticipatory bail petition, rejected it. District public prosector, Prakashchandra Shetty, had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
