Bangalore, Oct 29: Kannada Rajyotsava awards must be presented to veteran Kannada activists who have been struggling to safeguard the language, the land and its water bodies. During the announcement of Rajyotsava awards this year, the state government should acknowledge these veterans, urged K Prabhakar Reddy, president, Kannada Vedike, at a press conference on Monday October 27.
Rajyotsav awards have been presented to individuals for their enormous contributions to education, sports, art, social service, medicine, literature, and various other fields every year. However, the state administration has neglected those activists who have been promoting the cause of Kannada, for the past 45 years, he added.
The state has several such activists and leaders. They deserve the Rajyotsava award, but instead it has been presented to those who influence the award committee deviously, alleged Reddy. The list of Rajyotsava award winners always consists of a few individuals who are ineligible since they have not many any significant contributions to Karnataka, he lamented.
The state government should issue orders to implement the Dr Sarojini Report that has been languishing in the files, to protect Kannadigas who are under threat of becoming a minority on their own soil, he added.
