Mangalore, Oct 27: 'Tudara Parba' was held by the Suratkal Yuvavahini unit on Sunday October 26.
Speaking on the occasion the principal of Ganapati Pre- University College Chandrakala Nandavar said that light should be respected and worshiped. Light is a symbol of knowledge. Hence light should be respected and blowing off it is not the culture.
Advances in science and technology have been affecting the Tulu Diwali culture. The light which dispels darkness should not become the fire to destroy others. Though civilizations have registered progress in every sphere, some uncivilized elements still continue to be part of the society, she added.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, senior journalist Balakrishna Puttige regretted that the ancient traditions are being neglected amidst modern pace.
President of Yuvavahini central committee Chandrashekar Suvarna was the chief guest on the occasion.
Balakrishna Puttige inaugurated the programme by filling water in the copper pot while Chandrakala Nandavar decorated it with flower and Chandrashekar Suvarna heated up the water.
After the programme Balindra puja was performed to highlight the Tulu culture.
President of Suratkal unit Sitaram H welcomed the gathering. Secretary Satish Kotian read the report and convener I Sujit Raj proposed vote of thanks.
