Mangaluru, Sep 11: Vaishnav Hegde of Puttur represented the Indian Navy recently in the Inter Services Aquatic Championship held at Vishakhapatnam from September 4 to 8 and won 4 medals.
The swimming competition was conducted by INS CIRCARS (Eastern Naval Command Headquarters). Vaishnav won 3 gold medals in 50 breaststroke( 29.3 also happened to be a New meet record), 100 breaststroke (1.06.06) and 4x50 metres Medley relay. He also won a silver medal in 50 freestyle (24.20).
The Naval team won the team championship in swimming this year after a long span of 60 years.
Vaishnav has thus qualified for the 72nd Senior National Aquatic Championship which will be held in Trivandrum from September 19 to 23. He will be representing the services team(Defence) in the above 4 events at this meet.
Currently Vaishnav trains in Bengaluru after he got selected for the Navy. He was trained earlier by coach Partha Varanashi and coach Niroop G R at Balawana swimming pool, Puttur before he shifted to Bengaluru in February this year. Vaishnav is an old student of St Philomena College Puttur and Sudana Residential School Puttur.
