Bangalore, Oct 22: Tension prevailed at Sri Sathya Sai Baba Ashram near Whitefield for over four hours on Tuesday night following a bomb threat.
According to the police, around 8.45 p.m., M.J. Bhatia, supervisor of the ashram, received a telephone call that a bomb had been planted at the premises of temple. The person, who introduced himself as Krishnamurthy, had called from a mobile phone and demanded Rs. 1.50 lakh to defuse the bomb.
The Kadugodi police said that they were informed about it around 9.15 p.m., and immediately pressed the dog and bomb disposal squads into service. The police searched the premises till around 1 a.m. and did not find any explosives.
“Investigation with the mobile service operators revealed that the accused had procured the sim card by providing false address.
According to the records, the sim card was provided to a person residing near K.R. Puram Post Office,” a police official said. The accused switched off the mobile phone after making the threat call.
Assaulted
A garment factory employee was severely injured after she was assaulted by her colleague. The police said the incident occurred in Bombay Real Factory near Peenya on Wednesday.
The victim, Vishalakshi (22) of Kudligi in Bellary, sustained injuries on her face, neck, stomach and abdomen. The police have taken her colleague for questioning.
Killed in accident
A cyclist was killed when a goods lorry hit him on Dr. Rajkumar Road on Wednesday morning.
The police said that the accident occurred near CMIT Circle in Yeshwanthpur. The victim, Siddarama (40), was a resident of Nandini Layout.
Suicide
Prasanna (24), a fifth semester engineering student, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling on Tuesday night.
According to the Jnanabharathi police, the deceased was residing at an apartment in Nagarabhavi.
The police said that Prasanna, in a suicide note, blamed his decision to commit suicide on one of his friends who was harassing him.
Recovered
The Rajajinagar police have arrested a man and recovered from him jewellery estimated at Rs. 4 lakh and household articles from him. The police gave the name of the arrested as Sreenivas alias Sakkare Velayudhan (19) of Manjunatha Nagar. He was involved in theft cases in Basaveshwaranagar and Mahalakshmi Layout, the police said.
