Udupi, Oct 18: Fakir Bava, also known in local circles as Fakirappa(40), who has now been arrested by the police on charges of having connections with the terrorists, used to visit his native place often since a year, even though he was employed at Sharjah, and used to organize local youth, the locals said.
Fakir is the eldest of the six sons of late Guddan Ahmed Saheb residing in Beary Bittilu located on Narayanaguru Road of Ucchila Muloor near Kaup. The family was in dire straits in the past, and used to earn a living by engaging in fish vending in shimoga and Sringeri. After Fakir went abroad, he took his younger brother too with him. Later, he demolished the tiny house of the family and built a big home.
Marriage of two of his brothers had been conducted a week back. He had been on a visit here in connection with these functions and the policemen nabbed him on this occasion, it is said.
He is the main promoter of a local organization. Although he did not have any dealins with locals, during his visit, various persons from other places came in vehicles to meet him. His behaviour used to be suspect, they say. There are rumours that he used to spread information about jehad to and other activities to the local youth, through the laptop.
