Bangalore, Oct 17: The parliamentary party meeting of the BJP convened here on Thursday October 16, decided to provide rock-solid support to minister Anand V Asnotikar, who has been targeted for attack by the Congress. The party has decided to accept the challenge thrown by the Congress to it on the issue.
The meeting, held under the presidentship of the chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, discussed various topics like the by-poll, Lok Sabha elections, functioning of the government and development works, but earmarked a big chunk of the time for considering Asnotikar issue.
The meeting decided to politically face the onslaught by the Congress and the JD (S), launched against Asnotikar with political motives. The meeting also decided to take the issue of the by election as a prestige issue, as the Congress and the JD (S) have decided to stitch together an alliance with the sole purpose of humbling the BJP.
The meeting asked the legislators and specifically the district-in-charge ministers, to lay stress on development works, besides hastening and monitoring them, because of the ensuing elections. The government was asked to give paramount importance to elecltricity and road repairs. As bad roads are spoiling the government's reputation, the legislators have asked the government to release funds for their repairs immediately.
The functioning style of ministers also came in for scrutiny. An opinion that several ministries are not working to the level of expectations, emerged at the meeting. The chief minister instructed the ministers to effectively implement the schemes pertaining to their respective departments. It is said that the legislators were particularly unhappy about the working of some of the ministers.
BJP state president D V Sadanand Gowda said that the party will soon review the performances of individual minsiters soon. The legislators were happy over the progress and popularity of 'Sandhya Suraksha' scheme and wanted the implementation of this scheme to be intensified.
