Kolar, Oct 15: After two KSRTC buses collided head on between Hanumanahalli and Malapanahalli Gate on Kolar-Mulbagal road at midnight on Monday, five persons died on the spot, while five more succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Kolar. 27 persons have sustained injuries and several of them are in serious condition.
A Volvo(Airavat) bus moving towards Chennai from Bangalore and a semi-luxury bus bound for Bangalore from Tirupati, were involved in the accident.
Nagaraju(42), a teacher from Hassan, Vishnupriya(28) from RT Nagar Bangalore, Pankaja(38) lecturer from Mysore, Lakshmaiah(40) driver of the Volvo bus, Sachin Rao(26) engineer from Suratkal, Amit Kumar Singh(18), Giri(17), both from Talavadi in Tamilnadu, Rekha(12) and Jagannath(48) from Orissa lost their lives in the accident. One more body is yet to be identified.
Kolar deputy commissioner Srinivas, superintendent of police(SP) Puttaswami, assistant SP Phanivelu, deputy superintendent of police Baig and others rushed to the spot. KSRTC inspector general of police G M Hayat visited the spot.
The road was partially blocked for several hours due to the accident. Crane services were summoned to move the buses aside.
Sachin Rao, who was one of the victims, worked as engineer in L&T Company Chennai. He had come to Bangalore on Monday to take part in the christening ceremony of his brother's son, before returning by evening bus. He was the son of Sadanand Rao, resident of Janata Colony near Suratkal.
He had completed education in Mangalore Karnataka Polytechnic and was pursuing engineering degree through distance learning, while working in the company and had completed five semesters.
