Beltangady Oct 13: A programme was held for the distribution of Manipal Suraksha Health Scheme and identity cards at Guruvayanakere on Saturday October 11. The event was organized by the Nagarika Seva Trust.
Industries that harm the environment are not required in the district, said Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister, after distributing the cards and promising his participation in the protest against such industries.
The arrival of industries like NMPT and MRPL, have created problems for the fishing industry and fishermen. The industries which will come up through the special economic zone (SEZ), is sure to destroy the environment, he said.
Palemar promised to stop such industries. Dr B Madhava Bhandary presided over the function. U K Shanbhag of Manipal Syndicate bank, U S Shripati, chairman of KMC, and Prabhakar Bangera, former MLA, were the chief guests at the function.
Tulasi Harabe, president of taluk panchayat, was present. K Somanath Nayak, president, Nagarika Seva Trust, welcomed the gathering. B K Parameshwar Rao, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Vidya Nayak and Jayaprakash Bhat C H compered the programme
