M'lore: Sharada Vidyaniketan Gears-up for National-level Volleyball Tourney

Mangalore, Oct 12: A four-day national-level volleyball tournament will be held at Sharada Vidyaniketana Public School, Thalapady, from Thursday October 16. Final touches are being put on the 400m track, volleyball court, baseball court, and football ground, in preparation for the event.
The tournament, organized by Sharada educational institutions, is to be held in the state for the first time. According to the organizers, about 60 teams from different parts of the country will participate in the tourney.
Addressing the media on Saturday October 11, Raghumurthy S R, president, Viveka Institutions, said district-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar will inaugurate the tournament at 4.30 pm. Deputy commissioner, M Maheshwara Rao, will inaugurate the volleyball court while, mayor Ganesh Hosabettu, MLA U T Khader, Rajamani, Narendra, KC Nayak, Sushma Janardhan, and Jayanthi R Pakkala will be the chief guests. Prof M Kaveriappa, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, will preside over the inaugural ceremony.
Raghumurthy said that all arrangements were made for the tournament and for the accommodation of the sportspersons in the school. Prof M B Puranik said that 1,000 people can watch matches from the gallery at a time.
A Mohan Rao, general manager, Corporation Bank, will distribute prizes to the winners at a valedictory function to be held on Sunday October 19, at 5 pm. MLA N Yogish Bhat, B Nagaraj Shetty, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, builder Dayanand Pai, and zilla panchayat president Sucharitha Shetty, will be the chief guests. N Vinay Hegde, chairman, Nitte Education Trust, will preside.
Raghumurthy added that cultural programmes will be held in the evening and for the first time, a Hindi Yaksagana performance will also be part of the event. He said that interested students will also be taken on visits to pilgrim centres in the district".
A zonal-level tournament with Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh participating, will be organized on Tuesday October 14. Former mayor Divakara Shetty, and Pradeep Kumar Kalkura were present on the occasion.
