Mangalore, Oct 11: Fr Victor D’Mello, director, Family Life Service Centre, has been appointed secretary of the state family commission by Archbishop Bernard Moras for a three-year term.
Fr D’Mello was born and bought up in Kelmbet, St Don Bosco parish, and was ordained in 1991. He worked as assistant parish priest in Cassia, Udupi, and Shirva, parishes.
He also served as assistant director of Family Life Service before going to Sydney, Australia, to pursue further studies in family counseling and family life education. Fr D’Mello served as the director of the Family Life Service Centre for eight years, upon his return from Australia.
Fr D’Mello is also credited with starting the ‘Couples for Christ’, ‘Singles for Christ’, ‘Youth for Christ’, and ‘Kids for Christ’, in the diocese. The bishop has also appointed him the parish priest of Urva and he will take charge on November 3.
