Udupi: Thieves burgle Basrur Mahalingeshwara temple, silver items worth Rs 2 lac

Udupi, Jul 30: Thieves burgled historic Basrur Shri Mahathobhara Mahalingeshwara temple here on Sunday July 29 and escaped with silver ornaments.

The theft took place at around 1 am on Sunday. The thieves entered the temple after breaking open the back door. Before entering the temple, the thieves had locked the rooms of the temple priests and staff due to which they could not come out to catch the robbers.

Hearing the siren installed at the temple, the thieves escaped with 4 kg of silver items worth Rs 2 lac from the temple.

The canine squad and fingerprint experts were called to the spot.

Kandlur police visited the temple and sought CCTV details. Further investigation is underway.
