Udupi, Jul 27: After a portion of a concern named Supreme Feeds located at Herur near Brahmavar caught fire all of a sudden possibly due to short circuit on Thursday July 26 morning, the entity suffered loss to the tune of crores of rupees.
Fire was first sighted in the godown section of the concern at around 3 am on Thursday. It then spread to packing department. Huge stock of sesame oil, coconut oil and sunflower oil stocked in the godown for sale were destroyed.
Immediately after the fire brigade was alerted, two fire tenders rushed to the spot and began operations to extinguish the flames at 3.30 am. Thereafter, two more fire tenders from Kundapur, one from Malpe, and bozer with 17,000 litres capacity from Mangaluru joined hands. They could finally douse the flames by 11 am, said Udupi district fire officer, Vasanth Kumar.
Because of the intensity of the fire, the entire godown was badly damaged. Packing department suffered partial damage but cattle feed department and production department were not harmed. Vasanth Kumar estimated the loss to be in the order of three crore rupees. He felt that power short circuit or fire which got ignited in the boiler unit would have caused this fire.
Supreme Feeds has been involved with producing and packing of edible oil and pulses since last two decades. Over a hundred employees work here.
A report of the accident was filed in Brahmavar police station.
