Mangaluru, Jul 3: A special programme was recently organised to celebrate Doctors' Day at K S Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte, deemed to be university at Chintana, Seminar Hall, 2nd floor K S Hegde Hospital Deralakatte here.
Doctors' Day is celebrated every year on July 1 to recognise the yeoman service rendered by messengers of life and health.
July 1 is recognised every year to celebrate Doctors' Day in India as it is the birthday of Bharat Ratna Dr Bidan Chandra Roy.
K S Hegde Medical academy celebrated Doctor’s Day by honouring and felicitating five doctors. The doctors were Dr B Jayaram Rai, anaesthesiologist from Nitte Gajria Hospital, Karkala, Dr H A Shenoy surgeon from Payyannur, Dr Bhaskar orthopaedic surgeon from Puttur City Hospital, Puttur, Dr Arun Prabhu physician and Dr Asha Prabhu anaesthesiologist from Sirsi.
Dr P S Prakash, dean of KSHEMA welcomed the gathering.
Dr K Jayaprakash Shetty, vice dean (admin), Dr Amith Mirajkar, vice dean (academic), Dr Manjunath Kamath, professor anaesthesiology, Dr Dileep K S, associate professor orthopaedic surgery and Dr Rajeev T P, head of Urology introduced the doctors who were felicitated.
Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice chancellor of Nitte, deemed to be university presided over the programme. In his presiding address he stressed upon the need to inculcate ideal values and practice medicine with a humane touch. He said that the doctors needed to perform various roles everyday of their professional life, as a leader, as a continuous learner, as an effective communicator and has to manage his patients and fellow colleagues with utmost ethics and best professional behaviour.
Dr Shivakumar Hiremath, medical superintendent of K S Hegde Hospital rendered the vote of thanks.
Dr Siddharth M Shetty, professor of Orthopaedics was master of ceremonies.
The doctors who were felicitated planted five saplings of fruit and flower bearing trees in the campus as part of the celebrations and as part of KSHEMAs environment friendly initiative.
