Mangaluru: 18% more rain received than normal in the month of June

Mangaluru Jul 2: The coastal region is receiving heavy rains for some days. In the month of June, more rains than usual are recorded.

According to the statistics given by the meteorological department Dakshina Kannada district was supposed to receive 843 mm of rain for the period of June 1 to June 27. However, this year around the district has received rain measuring 1013.2 mm. In the district of Udupi, the normal rain for this period is 943.4 mm.

However, it has received 1,149.8 mm of rain this year. Uttara Kannada district has received 704.4 mm of rain this year against the usual 633.9 mm.

On the whole, the coastal region should have received a total amount of rain of 747.9 mm. However, this year the figure stands at 869.8 mm, which is 18% more than the usual recorded for the month of June.

    Eighteen percent of additional rain water during the month of June, 2018 in and around Mangalore should be accepted with grateful thanks. We have basket full of environmental experts who should try and discover new methods and technologies in preserving the surplus rain water for better use and better times.

    If required, we may even have to buy the technology from elsewhere and try to save the surplus water for better use. Let people get the benefit of additional water for more irrigation and more productivity.
