Bengaluru, Jul 2: A driver who got the sudden convulsions of epilepsy during driving made the bus land in a culvert under construction and averted a major tragedy. He has been hailed as a hero by the passengers who were on the bus due to his presence of mind under trying circumstance.

Srikant Kallappa (43), a resident of Shantinagar in the city, was driving the bus from Majestic to Electronic City at around 10 am on the morning of Sunday, Jul 1. Around 11 am he got the attack of epilepsy when the bus was near the third cross of Wilson Garden. He could not apply the brakes but managed to turn the steering to the left and got the bus to land in the culvert under construction. The bus got tilted as the tyres of the bus landed in the under construction culvert. The driver and nearly 15 passengers on the bus escaped with minor injuries and were treated as outpatients in the hospital.

If the bus was not turned to the left, then it would have caused serial accidents as it would have collided with other vehicles on the busy road.

As per the Wilson Garden traffic police, who registered a case in this regard, Srikant is under treatment for epilepsy and he did not have his breakfast in the morning. This might have triggered the sudden attack of epilepsy.
