Mangaluru, Jun 22: Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO), the only super specialty cancer hospital of greater Mangaluru, celebrated International Yoga Day on Thursday, June 21.
The occasion was graced by UT Khader, minister for urban development as the Chief Guest and K Radhakrishna Shetty, the director of Yoga Kuteera was the guest of honor.
Dr Jalauddin Akbar introduced the chief guest and emphasized the importance of yoga in health.
Speaking on the occasion, U T Khader shared the importance and need of practicing yoga to stay fit and healthy in this fast paced world which is full of stress and anxiety. K Radhakrishna Shetty, said that yoga is an systematic and methodical process to control, develop the mind and body and prevent and reduce various ailments. This will in turn help attain good health, balance of mind, self-realization and will help in enjoying a happy and blissful life, he said.
The staff, cancer patients and their care givers participated and performed different asanas under the guidance of Radhakrishna Shetty for one hour.
Dr Suresh Rao in his valedictory talk emphasized that yoga is especially important for cancer patients in their recovery and that people who are practicing it are having good quality of life.
