Udupi, Sep 23: The Rotary Club of Katpady, near here, has set up 52 toilets at a cost of Rs 6.70 lac in Kote and Mattu, as part of their drive to provide sanitation facilities to the rural poor. The toilets have been constructed for the benefit of 52 economically backward families.
The club was provided the funds from their parent organization in Honolulu,USA, for this purpose. The sanitation programme was successfully implemented under the leadership of Rotary Club Katpady president K Satyendra Pai and former president Srikar Anchan with the co-operation of all members.
The locals commended the social commitment of the Rotary Club in this endeavour, which should have been the responsibility of the government. In the second phase, the club is aiming to provide more sanitation facilities to the poorest of the poor with aid of US $25,000 from the parent organization, said Pai, in a press release.
