Panaji, Sep 22:
Margao railway station was transformed into a high security zone on Monday September 22 morning, as Marusagar Express chugged in at 11.10 am.

The train, which was said to have been carrying explosives on its way from Ernakulam to Jaipur as per intelligence inputs received from Kerala, was found to be having no objectionable substances on board, during the checking at Margao railway station.

"We have during the thorough check-up of entire train, found nothing objectionable on its board. Still we are not prepared to take any chances and Goa police personnel have been posted in all the wagons. They will accompany the train till Ratnagiri (Maharashtra)," superintendent of police (security), Tony Fernandes informed the reporters at the station.

As soon as the Kerala police intimated their Goa counterparts about the possibility of explosives being transported through the said train, security was beefed up in and around the station that is managed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited.

All the entry and exit points, except the main entrance and the one leading towards the overbridge, were sealed. Metal detectors were erected at the entry and exit points where every passenger and their baggage were thoroughly scanned.

"We will check all the north-bound trains, as we do not want to take chances," Fernandes, who led the police team, said.

Goa police have divided its bomb disposal squad into two teams, which were kept ready at Margao and Thivim railway stations respectively.

Margao's squad was later sent through the train to Ratnagiri. The policemen present in each of the 37 wagons will travel till Maharashtra police take over security of the train.
