Udupi, Jun 15: “There are people who have a wrong perception about blood donation especially women. Undoubtedly, it will enhance our health. All are healthy enough to donate blood. Let us all us be inspired to donate blood. Those who have no wealth to share, donate your blood to the needy. It will save others’ life. We will feel proud of it,” said deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis on the occasion of World Blood Donors’ Day on Thursday, June 14.
The programme was organized in collaboration with the Udupi district administration, zilla panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare department, District AIDS Control and Prevention Unit, Udupi, State Government Employees Association, Coastal Voluntary Donors’ association Gangolli, blood bank centre, district hospital and government Industrial Training Institute.
Active blood donors were felicitated on the occasion. Ashok Shetty, who donated blood 52 times, Kusuma 32 times, Ramesh Suvarna 30 times, Sampath Kumar, Natar, and Suleiman were felicitated.
Ashok Shetty said, “It is a noble act of saving someone’s life. I have donated blood many times without any expectations. Do not drink and drive. Now I am not in a position to donate, but I have save 150 lives so far.”
Kusuma said, “We can save many lives by donating blood. I did not face any problem by donating blood. I am satisfied and happy with it.”
District blood bank centre physician Dr Veena Kumari delivered a lecture on importance of blood donation.
Shivananda Kapashi, chief executive officer, zilla panchayat presided over the function.
Jagadish, principal of GITI Manipal, Vishwanath Bhat, president of IMC, GITI, Manipal, Subrahmanya Sheregar, president, Karnataka State Government Employees association, Chidananda Sanju, Diwakar Kharvi and others were present.
