Mangaluru, Jun 11: Taking an initiative, Arjun and Usha, hailing from Bengaluru and Mysuru respectively and currently working in Mangaluru, took up cleanliness drive as a part of World Ocean Day on Sunday, June 10 at Sasihithlu beach.

The team, named as Eco Warriors Mangaluru and a group of 14 volunteers from Audiology and SLP department of KMC, School of Social Work, ECE department - NITK and Blue Umbrella participated in the cleanliness drive event to beat the plastic pollution.

On having a small discussion with the people residing near Sasihithlu seashore, they found that the villagers are unaware about plastic pollution and its damage to marine life. It came to light that more awareness on this needs to be done in these places which minimizes maximum pollution and respective gramapanchayath needs to take action on collecting garbage from every door steps like in towns.

They are planning to organize more cleanliness drives in the same beach and move to other sea shores in future events. They are also preparing themselves to create awareness in such places with the help of gram panchayat members.
