Udupi, Sep 17: Four fishermen saved a young man, who was drowning owing to the sea draught while swimming in the beach on the evening of Tuesday September 16.
About 25 workers of Suzlon windmill manufacturing company located near Padubidri, had together come to the beach for frolic. Three of them ventured into the sea for swimming. The sea has been choppy since a few days. One of the swimmers got stuck in a draught and was carried about 200 metres away.
Although zilla panchayat member Shashikant Padubidri who was on the shore at the time tried to rescue the man with help of friends by using a boat, the boat could not be driven ahead because of the force of waves. On his instructions, Bhuvanendra C Karkera Kadipatna, Umanath Putran Kadipatna, Ashok M Salian kadipatna and Dhanajnay Kadipatna plunged into the sea and after fighting against the rough sea for over 30 minutes, succeeded in rescuing the man.
The man, identified as Sajal (18) from Uttar Pradesh, who was in a critical condition, was later carried to the local Siddi Vinayak Hospital by the policemen. He is reported to be out of danger now.
The adventurous men, who staked their lives for saving a stranger, have come in for lot of praise.
