Beltangady, Jun 1: A person who had entered the forest region at Ambatemale in Neriya village in the taluk died under mysterious circumstances.
The victim has been identified as James from Neriya village. He was working for nearby Baiju Estate in the capacity of supervisor.
On the night of Wednesday May 30, James had left his home at 6 pm for night duty. To ward off problems that might be created by wild animals, he had taken his gun with him. But he did not return home the next morning.
Jebin, son of James, who went searching for his father, making queries at various places. During the search he saw from a distance that a body was deposited among rocks in Ambatemoole rivulet in Neriya village. He went nearer and found that it belonged to his father. The gun was found about 15 feet away from the body.
Only a detailed investigation can find out the reason of the hunter's death. Some suspect that he would have lost his balance when crossing the rivulet, and when falling down, trigger of the gun would have been pressed and the bullet would have pierced his body.
Dharmasthala police visited the spot, conducted inquest, and registered a case after taking into possession the gun.
