Mangaluru, May 25: The effect of Nipah virus has touched fruit market here. There was huge demand for fruits here in view of Ramzan. As Muslims while breaking their fast in the evenings, consume large amount of fruits, both the sales and prices had picked up.
As warnings by doctors not to eat fruits bitten by bats was seen in the media and went viral in social networks, people refrained from buying them.
Therefore, there has been an adverse impact on the prices of fruits in the markets. Customers are hesitating to buy them. Business worth several lacs has diminished since the last two days.
Fruits vendors from Kerala used to come, buy fruits on wholesale basis and carry them. However, the business has collapsed as they are not seen during the last two days.
