Bengaluru: Cyclonic storm likely to hit coastal Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 23: A low pressure area has been created in the southwestern direction of Arabian Sea. This development, identified as second Mekunu cyclonic storm, which is expected to have major influence in Oman and neighbouring countries, is also likely to have some affect on coastal Karnataka and several districts in south interior area.

The meteorological department has warned that coastal and south interior districts of Karnataka may be influenced by the second cyclonic storm of the season between May 23 and 25. It is likely to hit Yemen and Oman coasts on May 26 morning.

At the same time, on account of intensifying of pre-monsoon rain, rain along with strong wind lashed several districts including Ballari, Koppal, Raichur etc. Roofs of several houses were blown away, electric poles and trees fell to the ground and things got drenched in unexpected rain. Paddy crops and fruits grown by farmers in different parts of the state were destroyed.

After rain and wind blew through Hubballi, the entire roof of a building in Udyama Nagara there which houses Venkateshwara Steels and George Oakes, flew away.
