Bengaluru, May 7: State home minister, Ramalinga Reddy, came down heavily on BJP for projecting the state government as anti-Hindu and claiming that it has not done anything in the case of killing of Hindus. Decrying BJP for its misinformation campaign against the state government, he said that the notion that BJP represents Hindus is wrong. Instead, he felt that it would be apt to describe BJP people as members of Sangh Parivar.
About the accusation of shielding killers in case of murders of 24 Hindu activists alleged by BJP, he said that 12 of them were BJP men killed by minorities while the rest were murders for other reasons like land dispute. He said his department has records to prove that the officials have taken prompt action and put in genuine efforts to trace and book the culprits in all the cases.
He also discounted BJP's charge about crime rate going through the roof during the Congress regime. He said that the crime rate came down from seven percent during BJP rule in2013 to five percent in 2016. He pointed out that Karnataka has one of the least cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and abduction of women.
He agreed that Nalapad incident had dented the image of his party a little but the party has managed it well. On the notion that he has become more aggressive after becoming home minister, Reddy said he had to change his attitude as the issues he has been handling after becoming home minister are different and as otherwise he would be treated as a weak home minister.
