Beltangady, May 5: Electoral officer of the local assembly constituency has served notice on former minister, Gangadhar Gowda, who recently quit BJP and joined Congress. Gowda has been accused of making certain statements at a meeting which could have harmed the standing of the BJP candidate from here, Harish Poonja.
It is said that speaking at the Congress campaign meeting near Ambedkar Bhavan here on May 2, Gangadhar Gowda had allegedly made remarks which were derogatory, insulting, false and were backed by malicious intentions against Harish Poonja. Harish Poonja had complained about this to the election commission.
In his complaint, Poonja had mentioned that the address of Gangadhar Gowda at the said meeting had clearly violated Representation of People's Act and that it was aimed at sowing the seeds of hatred in society and disrupt peace. On the basis of the said complaint, notice was served on Gangadhar Gowda.
