Mangaluru, May 5: "MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, is indulging in spreading false propaganda with the aim of denting the popularity of Mangaluru South MLA, J R Lobo. Kateel, who has been trying to make people to believe in his falsehood, should provide a list of contributions made by him towards the development of the city," said Congress district spokesperson and former city mayor, Mahabala Marla.
Marla said that Kateel had done precious little for the city's development and pointed out that he has been claiming himself to be No. 1 MP. "Nalin has proclaimed himself as top MP. We want to know whether he is No. 1 in achieving any development or in telling lies. Spending MP local area development fund is not a great thing. We want to know what has he done additionally to achieve development," he stated at a press meet he addressed on Friday March 4.
Marla accused Kateel of allowing the over-bridge work at Pumpwell to become sluggish on account of his inertia. "Nalin did not take interest on the demand for over-bridge at Nanthoor and KPT Circle. He failed to get any amount released towards the extension of runway at the airport here. He has also not been able to bring grants for development of fishing jetty at Kulai, which has been pending since long. Although fund was released for creating alternative tunnel route at Shiradi Ghat to ease traffic congestion, he did not do anything to take the project forward. Because of lack of farsightedness on the part of Nalin, the city has lost MSEZ second phase programme," he said.
Marla said that Nalin is skilled in doing politics in the name of caste, religion, and cows and his contribution to the development is nil. He accused the MP of spreading false information about J R Lobo, as BJP is staring at utter defeat in Mangaluru South constituency. He pointed out that Nalin has concealed 50 percent contribution made by the state in the Rs 215 crore grant towards smart city project and claimed that the entire money was released by the centre. He said that Nalin has been making hollow claims without providing documentary proof.
Congress leaders, A C Vinay Raj, Neerajchandra Paul, T K Sudheer, and others others were present at the press meet.
