Udupi, May 4: Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily has successfully settled differences between Karkala Congress leaders and Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty, who has now openly declared that he would work towards the victory of the Congress candidate.
In a meeting held on Friday May 4 under Veerappa Moily's leadership, Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty, Congress candidate Gopal Bhandary, Aveline Lewis and senior Congress leaders said that they would work together for the party's victory.
Moily during the meeting assured that all the block committees would be dissolved post elections and new booth, rural and block level committees would be formed as per the demands of party workers. He also assured of a suitable position to Uday Kumar in the party.
On getting assurance, the supporters of Shetty decided to join the campaigning in support of Congress candidate Gopala Bhandary.
Daniel Ranger and Taranath Kotian on behalf of the party workers shared their expectations and opinions as to how to strengthen the party ahead of the assembly polls.
In a press meet held later, Moily said, "Both Harsha Moily and Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty were aspirants for Congress ticket from Karkala. The party however decided to give the ticket to Gopal Bhandary. The rift that arose later on has ended and everybody is working hard towards Bhandary's victory. He also praises Shetty and said that he had a bright future and his loyalty to the party would be rewarded.
Ahead of assembly polls, a party workers' meeting has been called on May 5 at 5 pm at Madhuvan Garden in Jodukatte.
It may be recalled that soon after the Congress declared the name of candidate for the Karkala constituency, supporters of Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty took to streets openly blaming Moily for the ticket denial for the latter. They had demanded Moily's removal and one supporter had gone to the extent of even attempting suicide.
