Belagavi, May 4: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is in poll-bound Karnataka for campaigning, left Kannadigas red faced after he raised slogans in favour of Marathi speaking community with an intention to capture votes here on Thursday on May 4.
The incident occurred at Bedakihala village in Chikkodi when Gadkari was campaigning for the BJP candidates in Chikkodi-Sadalaga constituency. He sparked a row by allegedly insulting the Kannadigas by raising slogans in support of Marathis.
Addressing the crowd he chanted 'Jai Maharashtra' slogan eyeing Marathi vote bank. Immediately after few local BJP leaders gave suggestion in writing he shifted his focus targeting the Congress for its failure on all fronts. He also said that BJP had never played politics when it comes to development.
Chikkodi-Sadalga constituency in the Belagavi district and Mumbai Karnataka region of Karnataka is a part of the Chikkodi Parliamentary Lok Sabha constituency.
While Congress has named Ganesh Hukkeri as its candidate, BJP has presented Anna Saheb Jolle as its candidate in the Chikkodi constituency.
