Bengaluru, May 2: A man who demanded mutton soup instead of chicken soup served by his wife, was murdered by her at Kumaraswamy Layout in the city. The murder-accused in this case happens to be Gauramma (40), resident of Pragatipura here.
The police said that Gauramma, angry over her husband's demand, smothered him with a sari.
The husband-wife duo was into fruit vending. Out of income from this business, the couple had built a three-storeyed building. The first floor of the building is occupied by Gauramma's parents while the couple lived on the second floor with their three children. The ground floor was leased out.
Gopal was reportedly drunk when he came home on Sunday night. Before reaching home, he had conveyed to his wife his instruction to make mutton soup. When he sat down for dinner, however, he got livid when Gauramma served him chicken soup. In a fit of anger, he chided his wife. As the fight aggravated, Gauramma sent her children to her parents. Gauramma's parents came there later in an attempt to pacify their son-in-law. As they too failed to calm down Gopal, Gauramma, with support from her parents, tied up her husband's limbs and confined him inside a room of the house. This failed to stop Gopal from continuing to hurl abuses at his wife. In a fit of rage, Gauramma tightened a sari around her husband's throat, killing him instantly.
On Monday morning, Gauramma told her neighbours that her husband died of heart attack. But the neighbours, who knew about the fight within the family the previous night, had expressed suspicion about this story to the police. The police gathered that Gauramma initially had planned to take the body of Gopal to Chitoor, Andhra Pradesh, which happens to be her native place and incinerate the body there. However, she dropped this plan as she suspected that the vehicle would be scrutinized by offiicials at the election check posts stationed at strategic locations.
