Mangalore, Sep 5: At around 6.45 am on Friday September 5, an express bus that was moving towards Mangalore from Udupi, went out of control and capsized near Pavanje temple on the national highway 17, injuring 15 persons. The condition of two of the injured is serious and they have been admitted into a private hospital in Mangalore, while the others were treated at Suratkal.
The bus was moving at a tremendous speed at the time, and had just overtaken three ore-laden trucks, eye-witneses said. A crater was created at the spot due to the impact of the accident. Fortunately no lives have been lost although the intensity of the accident was great and the bus swirled around violently before settling on the road with a thud, they said.
Two persons in serious condition, were immediately moved to Mangalore for treatment. The other injured were carried in other buses. The bus driver went missing after the accident.
Mulki sub-inspector Sudarshan arrived on the spot and took steps to register a case and move the vehicle aside. As the accident took place early morning, the accident did not pose much of a problem to either the traffic or other vehicles.
