Mangaluru, Apr 25: Dakshina Kannada district youth Congress president, Mithun Rai, feels offended after being denied ticket from Mulky-Moodbidri assembly constituency after having been projected as a prospective candidate for long. A team of high ranking Congress officials are now trying to assuage his feelings.
All India Congress Committee secretary, Vishnunathan, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary,U B Venkatesh, Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee president, Harish Kumar, KPCC spokesperson, A C Vinayaraj, secretary, Navin D'Souza, and some other leaders visited Rai at his residence onTuesday April 24 in an effort to woo him. They reportedly told him that the party has faith in his abilities and that the party will be providing him proper opportunities in coming days. Speaking on behalf of others, Vishnunathan requested Rai to stand by the party in all stages of the election process including campaigning for the party.
MLAs, J R Lobo and Mohiuddin Bava, had visited Rai's residence on Monday for pacifying him and convincing him about the situation under which he could not be given party ticket.
Angered for sidelining him, Mithun Rai had stayed away from election-related programmes after the party decided to field MLA, Abhayachandra Jain, in Moodbidri constituency in spite of his unwillingness to fight the election. In a press conference, pledging solidarity with their president, office bearers of Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress Committee had warned of resigning from their posts en masse in protest against the injustice meted out to Mithun Rai.
