Three of the labourers were rescued immediately, but one remained trapped under the pile of mud for over one-and-a-half hours and thus lost his life.
It is learnt that the labourer had come to Puttur from Adyar in Mangaluru the same morning to work at the under-construction site of Anita Oil Mill's new building.
It is learnt that unscientific work at the construction site and the movement of heavy vehicles in the area resulted in the mishap.

MLA Shakuntala Shetty, tahshildar and other prominent local leaders too visited the spot.
On learning about the incident, the locals rushed to the spot and the cops had a tough time to disperse the crowd.
