Mangaluru, Apr 22: Members of Young Christian Students (YCS) of Bondel Church on Saturday April 21, launched 'DrugAlcha', an awareness programme on drug and alcohol abuse.
Fr Vinod Lobo, assistant parish priest, Bondel church in his introductory message said, "Drug abuse is a serious public health problem. It affects almost every community and family in some way. Its effects on children and teenagers may pose a greater hazard than in older people. This is because their brains are not yet fully developed. As a result, the brains of young people may be more susceptible to drug abuse and addiction than adult brains.
"Parents should be wary of their children falling prey to drug abuse or else they will be easily trapped by drug mafia. Hence, awareness is needed for parents as well. With this in mind, our YCS members came forward with a street play to support the move. In addition, to this pamphlets cautioning parents on drug consumption and awareness are being distributed. I appreciate the actors and leaders of YCS for their good intentions."
After the launch, a street play witnessed by a huge gathering of people was performed. The team will continue its shows in the coming days at various parts of the city.
