Udupi, Apr 22: Former DySP Anupama Shenoy filed her nomination as candidate of Bharatiya Janashakti Congress (BJC) from Kaup on Saturday, April 21.
Speaking to mediapersons at the old zilla panchayat office, Bannanje, she said, “Our party was registered in February and was allotted its symbol in March. We have planned to field around 15 candidates this time. Eight candidates filed their nominations on Saturday. Our party symbol, Ladyfinger, which we received from the Election Commission is on temporary basis. We are not focusing on Ballari. We have already released a list of 30 candidates. We have three more days left to file nominations. We have already started home to home visit campaign from Indiranagar.
“My election campaigning will mainly focus on domestic violence against women as my expertise in the field of legal matters. When I was in the police department, many women would come with complaints of family disputes. There is lack of guidance. I will give them advice to overcome the problem. Most of the cases on land disputes too are pending. I will help people and advise them how they can amicably sort out the issue.
“If I lose the elections, I will focus on the strengthening of the party and set a good platform for the next elections. If I win the election this time, it would be a bonus for me. I will contest the Lok Sabha elections in future.
“If I emerge victorious this time, I will keep the first three days of the week to hear public grievances. I will examine those appeals in the next three days and will visit the areas of issues. Rest of the time, I will visit respective departments in Bengaluru to find solutions for the issues,” she said.
Questioning sitting MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake she said, “If he is known as ‘Harikara of Developments’, then why was he sacked from the Siddaramaiah cabinet? If he is really a good person, then why was Congress not interested to see him as a cabinet minister? Let him answer my questions. If he is really concerned about the public, he would have expressed concern to protect the interests of his voters.
“I never blamed him for corruption. Unless I have strong evidence, I will not file a complaint against anybody. Yes, I have blamed Pramod Madhwaraj in the case of Hublot watch, because I had proper documents,” she said.
Commenting on Sorake, she said, “He started the development works just for the sake of the upcoming election. Just three months ago, roads and bridges were concreted near my house.”
On organising conventions, she said, “Right now, we have limited budget to organize conventions. We will think about that in the coming days.”
