Chamarajanagar, Apr 15: After a loaded lorry got deposited on a car and crushed it under its weight, three persons died while two suffered injuries. The accident happened on national highway 209 in the outskirts of the town on Saturday April 14.
Those who lost their lives in the accident were driver of the car, Siddarama (28) from Koluragi village in Indi taluk, Vijayapura district, and children, Laxmikanth (7) and Sanketh (4). Sangappa (45) and Preethi (16), suffered minor injuries in the accident. Both of them are being treated in the district hospital here.
Seven members of Sangappa's family from Koluragi village including three children had undertaken tour of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu by car. The entourage was moving towards Nanjangud via Satyamangala in Tamil Nadu when the accident happened.
When the car was passing through national highway 209 in Somwarpet extension of the town on Saturday morning, the children had begun to throw up. Therefore, the car had been parked by the roadside and four people had got down to buy tender coconuts. The driver and two children remained inside the car.
A truck loaded with corn that was moving towards Satyamangala suddenly lost its balance when passing near the parked car, and got deposited on it. Under the weight of the lorry and bags of corn, the car was crushed. Sangappa and Preethi who were standing nearby having tender coconut suffered minor injuries.
Policemen from the traffic police station here rushed to the spot, blocked traffic on highway for sometime and arranged for lifting of the truck with the help of backhoes, and extricating bodies from the debris. A case was registered and investigation was undertaken.
