Udupi, Apr 13: District JDS president Yogish Shetty on Thursday, April 12, said that the two national parties have failed to protect land, water, and languages of Karnataka.
Addressing a press meet here in Udupi here Shetty said that only JD(S) led by former prime minister H D Devegowda and former chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will work in the interest of people of Karnataka if elected.
"Kumaraswamy worked amidst people for 20 months and he was accessible to the electorate. He is a leader, who ensured that every government facility reached to the people of the state. Hence, people of Karnataka must support Kumaraswamy in the upcoming assembly polls.
“The JD(S) promised to waive off loans of the farmers within 24 hours of taking power in the state. JD(S) also planned to fix minimum monthly wage of Rs 10,000 for Anganwadi Asha workers, Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for specially-abled persons, Rs 5,000 aid for senior citizens, Rs 6,000 allowance for pregnant women in each month, introduce advanced technology in agriculture with the support of Israel.
"The JD(S) workers are putting their sincere effort to execute plans in reality. The state JD(S) has announced Gangadhar Birthi, an active leader of Savitha Samaj as the candidate from Udupi assembly constituency. He has served in various organizations and is also the trustee of famous Kacchur Nageshwar temple. Another pro-active leader Ravi Shetty will be contesting from Byndoor assembly constituency. He has worked for the welfare of labor class and hope that his portfolio will help youth.
"Prakash Shetty Thekkatte's name has been finalized from Kundapura constituency. He is an eligible candidate and he will uphold the JD(S) flag. Party meeting have been held at booth level in order to unite the party. The high comman-*d of JD(S) will take decision about contesting candidate from Kaup and it will be announced soon. As per the decision of high command, JD(S) will support BSP, led by Mayavathi.
"The alliance with BSP will have effect on JD(S) result in Udupi constituency. Establishment of Government medical college, government engineering college in Udupi is top priorities. Forming new sand policy to avoid sand mafia, making permanent solution for drinking water supply, construction of permanent sea wall to prevent sea erosion, underground drainage in Udupi city are some of the key promises of the JD(S). The district unit of JD(S) will face assembly elections, and we hope that citizens of Udupi will support us," Shetty added.
Prakash Shetty Thekkatte, Gangadhar Birthi, Udayakumar Thallur and others were present at the press meet.
