Mangalore, Aug 29: The Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) has strongly condemned the attack on churches, orphanages, schools and other institutions being run by Christians by anti-social elements. It is high time the central government steps in and takes appropriate action to control such atrocities on minorities and ensure protection, since the Orissa government has failed yet again on this front, it said and demanded for booking and punishing people responsible for such shameless acts.
The association has also condemned the attack and murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and his disciples and urged the Orissa Government to nab the culprits. However, this incident is not an excuse for any one to attack and vandalize Churches and minority institutions. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure law and order, it has stressed.
Orissa government is quiet even though such brutal acts keep repeating again and again. Burning of Australian missionary Dr Graham Stains, who had been serving the poor and the leprosy patients along with this two children and such other acts have shaken the conscience of the minorities and the entire world, the association said.
FKCA chairman Charles Gomes has requested the central government to intervene if the Orissa government fails to maintain law and order, and protect minorities.
