Kundapur, Apr 8: A youth who was hired to clean the septic tank attached to a toilet of a house at M Kodi within the local municipal limits slipped, fell into the septic tank, and breathed his last. This incident happened on Saturday April 7 afternoon.

The deceased was Sandeep (32) from Tekkatte. He belonged to a scheduled tribe. Reportedly, he was hired by Abdul Khader to attend to the cleaning work of the septic tank of Usman from M Kodi.

A family had requested a local, Abdul Khader, to arrange to get the septic tank of the house cleaned as the family is planning to hold a wedding function in its home shortly. It is said that Abdul had sought help from Vasu from Kota Padukere for this work. He was waiting for the arrival of another labourer, Krishna, at Tekkatte, when Sandeep approached him, seeking some work, duly claiming that he has remained unemployed since several days. Abdul, who had never met the youngster before, offered him job, after which the trio reached M Kodi to attend to septic tank cleaning work.

Abdul supervised the work till Saturday afternoon and went away to fetch lunch. Sandeep, who was sitting by the side of Vasu, suddenly slipped and fell down and found that he could not move his limbs and climb up. Those on the spot brought him out of the pit and took him to a hospital, but their effort could not save the youth's life. The body of the labourer was thereafter kept in the mortuary of the government hospital here.

Local deputy superintendent of police, Dinesh Kumar, and sub-inspector, Harish, and other police personnel of the police station here visited the spot and took up investigation by questioning the family members.

A case stands registered against Usman and Abdul Khader in this connection in the town police station here.
