Mangalore, Aug 27: Emirates Paradela UAE, a premier community organisation in the UAE, extended aid amounting to five lac rupees to 20 cancer patients in the city, on Tuesday, August 26, at Samanvaya auditorium in Urwa Store, here.

Emirates Paradela, a 40-member group spread all over UAE, has been helping poor students and other needy people in the society since its inception. Recently they had distributed scholarships for the poor children through Samanvaya, Mangalore.

Former deputy Mayor of Mangalore Judith Mascarenhas was the chief guest of the function and she handed over the cheques to the Cancer patients. In her address. she impressed upon the necessity to be compassionate towards the ill and the less fortunate and also the need to to be of help to others, just as we keep receiving help from others through out our lives.









Walter Nandalike, Editor-in-chief, daijiworld.com was guest of honour. He said that a majority of social welfare organizations or voluntary bodies confine themselves to working for the benefit of its members, while others work for the welfare of parishioners, community, and the society. Hence, Emirates Paradela deserve to be commended for their efforts in extending financial assistance of Rs 5 lac to the lesser known cancer victims in the city, without taking into consideration parametres like Language, caste or creed, he added. 

Emirates Paradela had instituted the Sunil D'Mello memorial fund in remembrance of a cancer patient who lost his battle with the disease. John Monis, editor of  Konkani weekly 'Dirvem', said that this effort was indeed a true tribute to the soul of the late Sunil D Mello. Besides, it is an occasion to pray for the repose of the soul of Mick Max, founder member of Paradela, he felt.


Gilbert Pinto, central committee president, SSVP, said that nothing could be achieved without  divine will. Sr Mabel, superior of Bejai convent, said that the people need to find God in the suffering of cancer patients, since they persevere in agony.









Fardeen, Dhyanashankar, Naman Pai, Krishna Shetty, Leelavati Bangera, Vincent Devdas, Rita Pais, Janet Rodrigues, Victor D'Souza, Patrick D'Souza, Joswin Pereira, John Tauro, Cicilia Crasta, Rivona Fernandes, Apoline Rodrigues, Maxim D'Souza, Jayaprakash D'Souza, Francis Machado, and Lloyd Austin D'Souza were the beneficiaries who received cheques from Emirates Paradela.

Emirates Paradela had also distributed financial assistance of Rs 5 lac to needy students, through Samanvaya, a few weeks ago. Franklin D Cunha, president, Emirates Paradela UAE,  Gerry D'Mello, Arun D'Souza, Bennet D'Mello and other office-bearers were present on the occasion.

Earlier Fr Ronald Coutinho, managing trustee of Samanvaya, introduced guests to the audience. He briefed about the achievement of Emirates Paradela and Samanvaya Centre.

Fr Coutinho co-ordinated the entire event.

Bennet D'Mello proposed the vote of thanks.
