Udupi, Apr 2: President of the district Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation Committee, Shivananda Kapasi, who also happens to the chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat here, urged the voters to cast their votes in favour of the person who as per their discretion is best suited for them, without getting enticed by the lures or offers which might be extended by candidates or political parties.
He was speaking after visiting the colony of migrant labourers at Mahabala Shetty Compound at Nittur near here on Sunday April 1, after providing information about the importance of casting votes and administering oath about voting to the people there.
"Exercise your right to vote without fear of favour. If you feel that there are any obstacles in holding free, transparent and judicious election, you can inform toll free number 1077 provided in the office of the deputy commissioner," he explained. He also stated that differently abled voters can provide advance information to telephone No. 0820-2574811 so that they can be picked from their residences, taken to the polling centres, and dropped off at their houses after they cast their votes.
Kapasi explained that everyone who completes the age of 18 as at January 1 this year has the opportunity to enroll himself or herself in the voters list. He asked such eligible voters to get their names added to the list immediately. He also called upon people having names in the voters list to contact nearest booth level officer and confirm that their names are mentioned there. He wanted everyone to cast their votes without fail.
On this occasion, people were made aware about the use of elecltronic voting machine, VVPat etc and pamphlets were distributed to them.
District labour officer, Vishwanath, district director in the department of differently abled, Niranjan Bhat, block education officer, Nagesh Shanbhogue, education department's inspector, Nagaraj, Prashanth Shetty Havanje, education coordinator of Brahmavar block education officer, and others were present.
