Udupi: Controversial comments about Math Swamijis - Sode Math serves notice on Shiroor

Udupi, Apr 1: On behalf of Sode Math, which is one of the eight Maths in the Sri Krishna Math hierarchy of puja rights, has served notice on Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math, seeking clarification from him over his controversial statement to the media about other Swamijis relating to their celibacy, which seemed like off-the-cuff remark.

On this issue, a meeting had been held at Sri Krishna Math here late night on March 15. This meeting was chaired by Pejavar Math' Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji. Swamijis of Palimaru, Admar, junior Swamiji of Admar, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swmaiji, who happens to be the junor Swamiji of Pejavar Math, Krishnapur Swamiji, Kaniyoor Swamiji and Sode Math Swamiji had taken part in this meeting. The meeting had decided to initiate suitable steps against Shiroor Math Swamiji for his remark showing the other Swamijis in poor light.

Sode Math being the 'Dwndva' math of Shiroor Math, having been traditionally paired with that Math, has now issued notice to Shiroor Math Swamiji seeking his explanation on the statement made by him. It is learnt that this notice was sent several days back but the Shiroor Math Swamiji has chosen not to respond to it. Reportedly, other Swamijis have been awaiting his response before taking a decision on the kind of action.

Pairing of Maths gains importance as far as administrative matters or puja rights are concerned. The Swamijis of the other 'Dwandva' Math automatically gets the right to perform puja or run administration on behalf of the Swamiji of the other Math in the 'Dwandva' system whenever the other Swamiji is unable to perform his duties on account of ill health, demise, etc.
